Our son is not yet 3 months old. He doesn't eat candy. We're not especially fond of taking him into public places to meet strangers with H1N1 going around. We're also not at "home.

I'm still in Iowa and that means that I took an extremely long trip (by car) to get here. How long, you might ask? How does 15.5 hours sound? Long? Short? What if I told you we tried to make it in one day (and did). Hmmm? Interest peaked? I hope so.

Death in the Family

As I write this I am sitting not in Texas, but in Iowa. My wife's grandfather passed away and we are back in town for the funeral. Our son's great-grandfather has moved on. The difficulties were/are many: A near one-thousand mile car drive? CHECK.

Recently, when I was up and away from a computer, someone asked to see a picture of my son. Strangely, I didn't have one. My wife and I have not yet physically printed out any pictures of our son.

One of the challenges of fatherhood has been having less time to complete the same number of tasks. My wife had been wonderful by trying to give me time to do my work. During her six weeks of time off from work our schedules were irrevocably changed.

My son's first poop was a joyous celebration! My wife and I cheered and gave each other high-fives. We were so excited to see proof that his insides were working properly. We were jumping for joy to have a concrete and visible reason to cover his bottom with that drawer full of diapers.
