Father's Day, 2008by Rich Andrews | More from this Blogger 04 Jun 2008 01:26 AM It's that special time of year again when dads look forward to all the unique and wonderful gifts that they will receive. Everything from ties to power tools is on the menu. One of the best gifts I ever received was a 12-string guitar. I used to joke with my wife all the time about getting one for my anniversary present. My wife and son went in on this together and purchased it online. I tried to think back to what I used to give my dad for Father's Day. Nothing really stands out in my mind. Today we mostly just send our dads cards and give them a phone call. So, I guess we are mostly giving them our time. A card seems like such a small thing, but it can mean a great deal to a dad when there has not been much contact between a father and his children. A person's handwriting is such a personal way to express their thoughts to a loved one. A phone call gives your dad a voice to hear and may even help to soothe loneliness. It also gives them information about your family that they can brag about to their friends. Photographs are also a great bragging tool for parents and grandparents and mean a great deal to them. My grandmother was buried with a picture frame entitled "Grandma's Gang" with pictures of her three grandkids. We were loved and adored by our grandmother. Other gifts you could consider might be a scrapbook with letters and photographs of special memories of your father. You could also include a videotape presentation of something like "This is Your Life." Some people who could not travel might be able to offer special memories about your dad that could be a great keepsake. Whatever gift, or mode of expression you choose it is just great that you are setting aside a day to honor your dad. Sometimes racked with financial trouble and lack of creativity often leaves me giving them a Card. I can't say it's bad, it's well thought of and it comes from the heart. But I'd also like to give them something really special. Thanks for giving me an idea this father's day. And I remember my husband telling me he wants a subscription in that online game. Hmmm...I say, I'll think about it. -Yvie http://tangerineslullaby.eachday.com Valorie Delp (49340) 04 Jun 2008 03:52 AMI'm doing a photo montage out of several framed black and white photos that he took of our kids and then setting aside two of the picture frames to include the verse from our wedding and another one of his favorites. ;-) It will be the centerpiece of our living room when we move in a few months. Samual (11722) 04 Jun 2008 08:35 AMMe, my sister and brother are taking our Dad to the Lakedistrict for the weekend, so he can get some peace from mums moaning. Rich Andrews (276) 04 Jun 2008 10:34 AMI like the photo montage idea. Also, a subscription to a favorite magazine, and a trip to the lake for the weekend sounds great. Peace and quiet - what is that! Have a great Father's Day everyone. Community Tags Father's Day, gift idea, gift from the heart, gift ideas, relationships Discuss this article
