Long Trips at Seven Months

Spring Break snuck up on the town like higher gas prices and egg shaped pastel candies. Once again my wife and I prepared for the overly lengthy trip back to Iowa. Our near thousand mile trek was certain to be different than our previous trips. It was also, certainly, going to be more difficult now that our son is more mobile than he has been previously. Strangely, the trip went extremely well and I can’t quite reason out why. One of the smartest decisions we made was to split the trip over two days and bite the proverbial bullet of … Continue reading

Disney Cruises in 2012 and 2013

I haven’t reported as much on the Disney Fantasy as I did on the Disney Dream. The latest in the Disney fleet makes its maiden voyage in just a few weeks and yet this is the first that I’m reporting on it. That’s because there hasn’t been a lot to say; the Fantasy is quite similar to the Dream. It’s beefed up a bit, but it’s basically a bigger, fancier version of the Dream. Now the Fantasy is set to make its first trips, however, and the time has come to talk about it. For the first time a christening … Continue reading

Postponing Maternity Clothes Shopping

I am not the biggest fan of shopping. Sometimes I like to go shopping just to look and maybe try something on to see if it fits (although I am usually disappointed by how clothes don’t fit the way I would like). I like these “window shopping” trips to be fast, less than an hour, certainly no more than two hours. A few times a year I do go shopping with the intent to buy but only if I am in need of particular articles of clothing (jeans, shoes, tops, etc.). These shopping trips with the intent to buy usually … Continue reading

(Sort of) a Vacation?

The end of last week was a whirlwind for my family. I’ve been in technicals the past week for a theatrical show I’ve been working on, my wife had an obligation in another city, and my graduate work for school certainly hasn’t let up at all. To top it all off I ended up going with my wife, out of town, for her work obligation. This ended up being a great thing but it certainly outlined the difficulty of trying to be in two places at the same time. It also outlined the difficulty of the types of work my … Continue reading

Sizzling Savings During the Dog Days of Summer

As a child growing up in Hawaii I never quite understood why so many tourists would come to play on the islands’ beaches in middle of summer. Obviously, during the months of July and August it wasn’t the balmy temperatures that drove them there. Eventually, I figured out that most families plan their trips to the Aloha State to coincide with their children’s summer break from school, and while they might prefer to visit during the winter months doing so in July made more sense. And when you are traveling with a gaggle of children why wouldn’t you look for … Continue reading
