Triune Health Group Receives Temporary Injunction

There has been another court case filed in regards to the birth control mandate. The owners of Triune Health Group are Roman Catholic and felt that contraception coverage in employer sponsored health plans violated their own, personal, religious beliefs. A judge has granted the company a temporary injunction from the birth control mandate. To me, this is a rather odd court case! The first unexpected thing about it is the company that the case involves. Triune Health Group describes itself as “experts in Health Care Management”. They have been helping people for 20 years to improve their health and wellness … Continue reading

Life is Three Dimensional

There are subtle differences that make a big impact between images that look professional and those that fall flat. Lighting is a big factor, but a lot can hinge on how you, as the photographer, set up the shot as well. While pictures can always be easily cropped in this digital age, you can’t change the composition of an image without a lot of painting, cloning, masking and other advanced editing techniques. It can be done, but you’re not going to end up with a natural image. If anything, it’s more like digital illustration rather than photography. That is why … Continue reading

Menstrual Changes After Tubal Ligation

Tubal ligation is a popular method of birth control for couples who are finished having children. There is a group of women who experience changes in the menstrual cycle after the surgery. These symptoms have been given a medical diagnosis, post tubal ligation syndrome. The U.S. Collaborative Review on Sterilization was started in the late 1970s to collect data on tubal ligation and later menstrual difficulties and hysterectomy. The participants were all women under the age of 45 years old. The original group was women who were undergoing a tubal ligation. Later, a group of women with husbands who had … Continue reading

Group Apologies and Ethnic Shame?–No Thanks

The director of my daughters’ adoption agency in Seoul has issued an apology on behalf of Koreans for the actions of Seung-Hui Cho, the young man who killed 32 fellow students and faculty at Virginia Tech University last week. (Cho was a South Korean citizen but a legal resident of the US who came here at the age of eight.) The apology was disseminated by an American adoption agency in Virginia which partners with the Korean agency in placing Korean children for adoption in the US. My local newspaper featured a Korean-American state legislator issuing a public apology and a … Continue reading

Texas About to Change Rules for WHP

Starting in November of 2012, there will be new rules for the Texas Women’s Health Care Program (WHP). It is part of the Medicaid program. The new rules will further limit the amount of health care that low income women can receive coverage for. This is tragic news for low income women in Texas. Medicaid is usually funded by both the federal government and the government of an individual state. The state of Texas, however, lost their federal funding for the Women’s Health Care program (WHP), after it decided to specifically exclude Planned Parenthood from receiving funding through that program. … Continue reading

Toddlers Are Awesome

I recently realized that my toddler will not be a toddler much longer. Apparently, the age range during which a child is a toddler is from eighteen months until three years. Dylan will turn three on November 21. At that point, he will belong to the “preschoolers” age group regardless of whether or not he is actually enrolled in preschool at the time. As with anything kid – related, it seems as though passing through the toddler stage did not take as long as I thought that it might. There sure have been a lot of things packed in to … Continue reading

Arkansas Has a Women’s Health (Family Planning) Program The Medicaid program in Arkansas covers women who are pregnant. Their website doesn’t give many details about that portion of their Medicaid program. However, you can find plenty of information about their Family Planning program, (which includes coverage for sterilization). Doctors … Continue reading
