Capturing Sweet Smiles

Valentine’s Day may be over, but that doesn’t mean you should stop snapping sweet shots of loved ones. Nothing brings a smile to my face faster than catching a glimpse of a framed photo of my young daughter smiling brightly on our favorite beach in Hawaii with the sun setting behind her. The photo is nearly two years old, but it still puts me in a good mood each time I see it. Snapping a frame worthy picture of an unpredictable child can be challenging, but if you go into the session remembering a few key tips, you should be … Continue reading

Smiles

Smiles are something that we wait for with a certain and definite amount of anticipation in our newborn infant. While I strove to enjoy every moment of my daughter’s newborn stage, I am pleased to welcome the smiley stage. In the days, weeks, and now months that we have spend observing and interacting with our daughter, we were on the lookout for smiles. They began when our daughter was only days old. She would smile in her sleep, most likely mere reflex, but still a true pleasure to behold. Then she started smiling while she was awake, perhaps in reaction … Continue reading

The Start of Smiles

After over 30 days of horrendous crying, or (more pleasantly) a furrowed brow and a look of confusion or dissatisfaction only being quelled by breastfeeding, my son smiled at me this week. It was quite intentional as I sat that wonderful morning in my office chair, in front of the glowing ambiance of computer screens signaling the near and inevitable dawn. It was in this modest location, on a day like any other, that my son smiled at me. My wife doesn’t believe it but it truly did happen. He was, perhaps, a bit groggy from his recent pre-dawn feeding … Continue reading

Oh Say Can You See

That’s me with glasses. That’s my daughter dying of embarrassment because I decided to wear said glasses in public. I bribed her to smile for the camera. Yes, I am that mom. The one who willingly mortifies her child in public by wearing specs her daughter views as “totally ugly” all in the name of safety.  Believe me; you don’t want to know what would happen if I were to drive without the lenses that help correct my 20/500 vision. Ironically, that same daughter, who so quickly denounces my looks when I opt to wear glasses instead of contacts, came … Continue reading

My Little Turkey

That’s my little turkey during her second Thanksgiving meal. Her first Turkey Day celebration is a blur. She was pull-your-hair-out colicky and too young for solids. However, I’m positive she got at least a hint of spice while she was nursing, given how much pumpkin pie I scarfed down that day… and the next day… and the next day. I love pumpkin pie. But not as much as I love my little turkey. Only, she’s not so little any more. Now, she’s a big turkey, and she’s got the mouth to prove it. When she was a little, she’d wobble … Continue reading

Grateful for Baby

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I decided to think about all the things that I am grateful for about my job as a Mother to my sweet little baby. Yesterday, one of my older children was sick. I had very little sleep, and had been up since about 2 am. Needless to say, I was pretty grouchy when the sun started to rise and I had to continue on with my daily duties as a Mom. But, then my baby woke up. I walked into his room, and he smiled at me (like he always does). I thought to myself, … Continue reading

Life Goes On With Toddler And Baby

I am not sure what I expected life with a baby and a toddler would be like. In fact, I am pretty sure that I did not have any expectations. For some reason, I simply did not think about what it would be like until Blake came along. In hindsight it is probably best that I did not have any preexisting expectations because they may have been completely different than what has actually transpired during the past seven months. The first couple of months were a blur, as things normally are after the arrival of a new baby. Time passed, … Continue reading

What is Your Ten Month Old Up To?

I can’t believe that we are just two short months away from my baby being a year old. 10 months have flown by. While I can’t say I’ve enjoyed every single second, I sure do love my little baby. I have been enjoying him reaching milestones, and I can’t wait to see what is to come. With his recent discovery that he likes sippy cups with straws, we have had plenty of meal times that get rather messy for me, but fun for him. He loves to drink water from a straw, but as soon as he is done, he … Continue reading

My Baby’s Obsession

My baby has an obsession. Animals. I noticed it a couple of months ago when I watched as he would follow the cat around the room smiling the whole time. But, then it became even more interesting as I saw him practically lunge for a dog at the park trying to get to him. If you point out a picture of an animal, he smiles instantly and almost laughs. He loves them. But, if you live in my house, where we have a very finicky cat that loves you one minute and is trying to bite you the next, then … Continue reading

Baby’s 9 Month Well Visit

So, yesterday, my baby had his 9 month well child visit at the pediatrician’s office. The 9 month visit is usually an easy one because no vaccines are involved. So, there was a lot of just talking and visiting with the pediatrician. My baby put on the charms. He was laughing and smiling like crazy at the doctor who has a habit of working hard to get the smiles out of my kids. He acts pretty silly at times, and that is something my kids love. We also discussed eating. Solids have been a little bit of a challenge for … Continue reading
