The Vacuum-Boy

When I first started staying home with my son this semester I wasn’t entirely sure what I was getting myself into. In fact, I still don’t know. That said, I’ve learned a number of special talents that he is in possession of that I wasn’t aware of. While some of these talents are great other talents leave much to be desired. This is, however, the process of growing up right before my eyes. Learning new skills and exploring your environment out of curiousity is what brought all of us to adulthood so I had better enjoy the ride. I never … Continue reading

Man, Oh Man! Er… Oh Boy! Oberto Beef Jerky and Meat Sticks Clearance

Okay, I’ll admit that I probably eat more jerky than dh, but he liked the title. We like jerky for a snack because one or two pieces satisfies. They’re also good for hiking, Boy Scout activities, or to keep in the car. So I’m excited about Oberto’s clearance sale. They’re closing out a lot of their jerky and meat sticks. Personally, I wouldn’t eat the meat sticks, but my teenaged boys can’t get enough of them. Some examples are the three-pack original for $7.99. I was at my grocer earlier today and a single pack was on sale for $5.99. … Continue reading

Who Does Most of the Housework

Do you do the majority of the housework in your home? A recent study has reinforced what we all already know, women, including working mothers, do the majority of housework, cooking and childcare. Why are people surprised by this? Since the dawn of time women have been responsible for the majority of housework. The division seems to be, women take care of the inside of the house and men take care of the outside. As we raise our children we reinforce those roles. Little girls help fold the laundry and run the vacuum. Little boys help mow the lawn, fix … Continue reading

Let Them Be Little

Do you let your children be children or have they become mini spouses? All too often single mothers lean on their children too much. It’s so easy to forget that they are just kids when we need their help. It’s nice to have someone else to take out the trash, walk the dog or vacuum, but our worries should not be theirs. So many times I’ve seen little boys with the weight of the world on their shoulders. They will do without to make sure their siblings have enough, they worry about their siblings, their mothers, the bills. It’s very … Continue reading

Cleaning the toilet is not high on anyone’s list of favorite things to do. Luckily there are products on the market … Continue reading

Moving To Organize

I found a new way to get organized. Have your child get her own apartment. I know it sounds a little drastic but it’s amazing how much stuff you can get rid of when you know your child will be using it. Hailey is moving into her new apartment next week and that has prompted me to go through cabinets and closets looking for things I don’t use. When you get your very first apartment you need everything. I have spent the last month going through my kitchen. One cabinet at a time. It’s amazing how much stuff you accumulate, … Continue reading

Learning the Spoon

One of the most joyful parts of being a father is watching your child learn the various things you’ve taken for granted over the years. From the simple act of rolling over to more complex tasks of walking and throwing a ball, this highlight is rewarding as you relive your childhood by watching how you probably learned the same tasks through great trial. It has been a great joy to see our son watch the wind blow through the leaves on a tree or carefully study the whirl of the final part of water from the bathtub. So many childhood … Continue reading

Taking Time Off to Care for a Sick Baby

This morning I had an extra hour and a half to myself. I started to get a little worried because my son tends to wake up every morning at seven like clock work, but this morning he did not wake up until 8:30. Finally, I heard him get out of bed, but no sooner did his feet hit the floor than he had begun to cry a soft, pitiful moan. As soon as I picked him up at his bedroom door, I could feel how warm his little body was. I stripped him down and got him into a warm … Continue reading
