Washing My Hands

One of the few things I remember doing while alone as a child was pretending. I constantly pretended that I was on a boat, or driving a car, or that my stuffed animal could fly, or that the tree in the backyard was a monster. I think pretending is a very prominent quality in all children. In part I think it stems from mimicking the world around them. Over the time I’ve spent with my son watching his development it seems that he learns things by trying to do what we do. Talk and he tries to repeat what you … Continue reading

Connecting to My Daughter

I have been counting down the days to Thursday, when I will be able to take a trip out of town. I have gone most years but there have been some I missed due to conflicts. This year was going to be a particularly special one because it is the first year that my daughter can attend, now that she is a teen. I … Continue reading

Knowing the benefits of hand-washing and getting our children to wash their hands regularly and thoroughly are two entirely different things, however. Why I’m Happy to Submit to My Husband

Feminism might throw up its collective hands in horror at the word submission, but I’m happy to submit to my husband. Why? Because it is what the Bible commands Ephesians 5:22. And no, I don’t believe Paul was a male chauvinist who didn’t appreciate women and their ministry. Paul valued the contribution made by Phoebe, Romans 16:1-2, Priscilla along with her husband Aquila, Romans 16:3-5, and I Corinthians 16:19, Mary, Romans 16: 6 , Tryphena, Tryphosa and Persis, Romans 16:12, and others he mentions throughout his letters. Although Paul wrote the words in Ephesians 5:22, they are inspired by the … Continue reading

Who’s That? – An Admission about My Roving Eye

It was a comment left by Families.com family member JadeWalker on For Men Who Do Not Wear Their Wedding Band… that gave me the guts to make my next admission: sometimes I find myself checking out good looking guys. A certain type of good looking guy in particular. But before you either defend this as my natural right or land blast me about not being a devoted enough wife, let me explain a little further. The Kind of Guy Who Catches My Eye I tend to go for the tall, athletic types with dark hair. Not too bulky, but not … Continue reading

The Let’s Talk Pregnancy Blog Top Ten: How to Induce Labor Naturally

If you’re attempting to have the most natural labor possible, you’re going to want to avoid artificial induction at all costs. Not only are artificially-induced contractions often significantly stronger and more painful, but starting labor unnaturally can likely lead to further complications. The current state of your cervix will determine how likely the onset of labor is. No amount of any of these, save number one maybe, will produce a baby if it’s not time. Sure, there are plenty of old wive’s tales for starting labor naturally, including eating spicy foods or taking a ride down a bumpy road. But … Continue reading
